Drivers Agfajet Sherpa 43 Printer. Similar to the Q by Beatr79, I have also just purchased a new Dell Inspiron 17R laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. I have a small wireless home network setup with the following components: Desktop running on Windows XP, DSL modem, Belkin router, and HP Photosmart 7660 printer wired to desktop via USB. The DSL modem is wired to router and router to desktop. The desktop and several laptops all running Windows XP have successfully connected to the network printer for several years. When I attempted to connect the new laptop to the Photosmart 7660 via the wireless network using the 'Add Devices and Printers' option, the system could not locate an appropriate printer-driver on Windows Update, and then gave the error msg, 'the file INF is needed. Type the file path and click OK'. When I could not locate the printer-file on the Windows 7 system, I went on-line to the HP website and found that they did not have a Windows 7 64-bit driver for the PhotoSmart 7660 but that the Deskjet 5600 driver was a compatible alternate.
When I then attempted to download that driver I was given a msg stating that this driver was already on my Windows 7 system. HP also gave me a step-by-step procedure for installing this driver but it only covers the installation of a local USB printer and not a network printer. I need the procedure for installing this Deskjet 5600 printer-driver for my network printer. Can anyone help? Thanks to all who provided input.
I now have access from my new laptop running Windows 7 64bit via our wireless local area network to my HP photosmart 7660 printer connected via cable to the host Dell desktop running Windows XP SP3 32bit. Here's what it took. I first learned from HP that a 64bit printer driver for the 7660 was unavailable but that the driver for the HP deskjet 5600 was a compatible alternative and was also available on my new Windows 7 64bit OS. As learned from my Forum answers, I first went to the desktop and reconfirmed the host Computer Name via Start>My Computer>Properties>Computer Name tab. I then reconfirmed the printer name via Start>Control Panel>Printers and Faxes>Right click on the photosmart 7660>Properties>Sharing Tab. I then went to the Windows 7 64bit laptop and did the following sequence: Start>Control Panel>Printers>Add printer>Add local printer>Click on 'Create a new port'>Local Port>Operation Flashpoint Red River Key Generator. Click Next.
